Despite so many accusations of toxic masculinity out there, deep down every man of character out there wants to be a hero…especially in his relationship with the right woman. This is not to be confused with being a ‘simp’ or some kind of pushover. This also isn’t another ‘Hero’s Journey’ talk, either. We’re talking about real, actual heroism here…as the woman in your life sees it.
My guest is psychotherapist and author Ed Nissin, who has thought enough about this subject that he actually wrote a book called Song Of The Hero. For starters, listen for the warning signs as Ed describes what was going on–or not going on–in his own relationship with his wife, inspiring him to make changes.
What should we do when being a leader, provider and protector is met with resistance by the woman in our life? Should we just back off? Well, the good news is if you’re actually trying to be a hero, you’re probably already on the right track…or at least not being seen as a villain (not by sane women, right?)
The next step is to understand women’s behavior patterns with regard to all of this, which Ed explains how to do. How does our evolution since caveman days actually make being a hero far more complex and difficult? And what’s the real world difference between simply protecting and providing and being her hero? Truly an important discussion for any man who wants a successful relationship with a high-quality woman.
