The term ‘inner game’ has been around for decades, dating at least as far back as Timothy Gallwey’s seminal book The Inner Game Of Tennis. But since then, the concept has been applied to much more general areas of life than just tennis.
My guest Cary Valentine is a deep thinker on this subject, to the point he’s named his organization Champion Your Inner Game. According to Cary, a lot of people take a curious interest in the general idea of improving their inner game, but have a hard time actually defining what it means.
Well, to start off, he offers a solid definition, along with the real-world goals that can be reached by focusing on it. Cary would say that the neuroscience of the subconscious is a language. What does he mean by that, and why is it so important to understand?
And further, why is getting our inner game under control so hard to do…particularly here in Western ‘developed’ cultures? What is the simple (but apparently difficult) first step most men need to take in order to get their inner game in order?
