Co-Host: Ruari Fairbairns - One Year No Beer

We as men tend to have a complicated relationship with alcohol. My guest, Ruari Fairbairns is well aware of that. That’s why even though he’s a professional advocate for drinking less, he comes from a completely different perspective than the tee-totaller activists out there who would seem to label anyone with a beer in their hand as an alcoholic.
Indeed, despite the catchy title of his practice, One Year No Beer, Ruari still occasionally pops the top himself. If that sounds hypocritical, it’s not. His is no heavy-handed, all-or nothing stance. Rather, he brings the unique message of encouraging us as men in particular to change our relationship with alcohol.
In his educated opinion, over time alcohol robs us of our mental and physical health to a degree we don’t even realize. Once we give ourselves a break from it, we start thinking and feeling better…causing us to WANT to drink less (if at all), instead of feeling as if we’re being strongarmed into sobriety.
It’s a novel approach designed for the HUGE demographic of men who like to drink, but aren’t clinically alcoholics. A lot of men drink alcohol to unwind at the end of the day. But is that really the best way to do so?
And what if we find ourselves only drinking in certain situations? What if we don’t want to stop being in that situation?
And is drinking non-alcoholic beer a decent way to quit alcohol? What if there was a new, high-tech alcohol substitute that gave you all the benefits with none of the downside?
